Family Over Everything

I’m upset that it took me so long to find Alana, Marko and baby/narrator Hazel. I spent the early 2010’s trying to adult and so I missed close to a decade of graphic novels, slash that, comic books. When I first got back into reading them, I referred to them as graphic novels because it made me feel better about who knows what. Fuck it, they’re comic books.

The series was created in 2012 by Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples. I’m reading a few series at once and I can’t keep my head on straight over where I’m at, but I’m pretty sure these two are responsible for many more of the works I’m devouring.

I finished the series this weekend and I’m crushed. I was under the impression that it ended with 9, but the series is continuing and the creators have stated that they will be taking a year hiatus from this comic. I won’t know what happens to my new found friends until at least 2020.

It seems like a long time, but I’ve waited over a year for the final season of Game of Thrones, so I know that I can take it… I just wish it didn’t have to be so.

Read the comics. I sat and read through 7 of them this weekend. I want to talk to you about this, but I don’t want to ruin meeting these characters for the first time, so I’m going to talk to you in code where I will know that I have expressed myself without feeling bad that I spoiled it for…
