Seasons

For the first time in a while, the year has been switched from seasons to semesters. Earlier this year, I believed that I would have a lot more time to write and read. What I believed to be a care-free year turned into a really busy 2021 that didn’t leave much time for leisure.

I haven’t added many reviews to the Sabrina Monet Writes page because I gravitated towards shows that I could play in the background while I continued with my actual work on the laptop. There were a few shows like Midnight Mass that grabbed my attention, but the reviews of this show and others have remained drafts on Medium that haven’t been published. Who knows what I will get to on vacation.

This article is more about centering me towards accountability. I’m excited that I have the building blocks of a manuscript that I plan to complete and it has gothic elements so that’s something that I’m plotting out. Fate help me I’m novelizing it so we shall see where this goes.

The personal becomes the political and in the past few months I’ve found myself more often than not deleting posts or backing out of posting out of hesitation that it would affect my job or the work I want to do in the future.

My thoughts on certain shows or books I have held back on commenting on because I’ve seen posts from others stating that any negative reviews of works of people you may want to work for in the future are frowned upon. That made me take a step back. My Twitter account ten years ago was nothing but bad reviews, but I understand where they’re coming from. Would it be so hard to comment on content without taking a negative tone with the review? I’ll try it.

Sometimes you just want to rant about foolery, but then you wonder if it’s the tweet that comes back to you at work. My pen name is essentially my name minus my last name, but still quite close to home. I don’t quite know the rules of being your own person, but also not insulting a board member that may see it. I’m treading lightly, but will slowly learn the ropes and how to express myself without censor.

It’s times like this that I envy my friend Abraham Woodliff who can say anything on his meme page Bay Area Memes and his own page because he doesn’t have to answer to anyone. I enjoy his freedom to speak and will continue to like his writing and posts while I navigate ways to do it on my own.

It’s the holidays. I’m eating chocolate, moving, writing an outline, working on a draft of web pages for work, and trying to remember to post on Medium. Here’s to 2022.
